Understanding Life from Different Perspectives :
Life. There are so many meanings and sometimes clueless answers behind this word. To a businessman, it's all about a proposal he needs to present in the morning to his client. All the way through his office, he might be tensed about the outcome of an uncertain event. But the same scenario is different from the perspective of the client. To him, this might be the nth person he meets. But the same, in the eyes of the employee, he might have stressed more than anyone to the extent that everyone in his family may have been running errands since he was stressed and screamed about it last night! In spite of all this, there is someone who is unemployed... (Ah, I get it...) a job seeker, who continuously gives thousands of interviews each day to support his/her family.
The reason to start it this way is, as we are navigating through the course of life, we are suck and sunk into the whirlpool of 'ME', without even realizing that someone is beside us! When we find it hard to find time for the ones we love and the ones who support us emotionally, think about people who were forced to carry the name of 'homeless people' where they are not only devoid of home, but also a family to rely on to and someone to look after them. But the least they wish is to have one meal a day, where many of us have something to return to at the end of the day, a home :)
LIFE OF THE HOMELESS:
Seeing Life from Their Perspective:
When was the last time someone told you that you looked pretty in your favorite dress? When was the last time you rescued a stray dog and gave it a new life? Let me make it simple. Did the idea of living through the eyes of homeless and helpless people flash before your eyes?
The life that no one could even live for a day. A life without anyone to lean on to , no one to share your pain and sufferings until the point it makes you believe in the self-imposed acceptance of 'the non-existent fate'. It's acceptable that everyone has battles to tell about. We are surrounded by people, yet we feel alone. And this moment is where I feel the need to take this as an opportunity to hear and understand the sufferings of people ,when we are likely to be in the same boat of feelings. You always don't have to be financially available for people. At most, it is enough for them to have someone to listen to.
The Struggles of Homeless Individuals:
Waking up in the busy yet lonely streets, there is no absolute differentiation between day and night. Thousands of footsteps wander around, but no one offers a hand for the lone. They go many days, sometimes a week without having their meal of the day. Some plead for money, and some for food. That empty stomach and a homelessness has many horrors to unfold. The disabled barely eat, or they have a public home to attend to. There may be many services/homes where many people have the huge heart to give these people a new life, without anything in return, but unfortunately, there are millions of hands waiting for a single meal of the day.
The Magnitude of Homelessness:
The unfortunate thing is that it gets harder as the days passes by. A survey shows that about 1.77 million people in India are homeless, including children, men, women, elderly people, and disabled individuals. It is observed that about 2462 shelters that can accommodate 124,498 people are available. That sums up to approximately 7.04% of the total number of homeless people! What about the rest of the percentage...? How can people be made feel that they are worth of living, that they aren't homeless? IT'S RELATIVELY LESS.
HOW WILL YOUR SERVICE HAVE AN IMPACT ON THE COMMUNITY?
The Power of Kindness and Compassion:
The real heroes are the ones who work tirelessly for the well-being of other people. As it is said, as a human, helping each other is helping God. When you devote your time in helping someone financially or through any genuine action, it is more than just help. You not only offer help but also choose kindness, compassion, and love in the service of mankind.
Ways to Make a Difference:
- Volunteering to help in homeless shelters whenever you can. Helping them by talking with them and providing food to people.
- If you possess any skills, you could use them for a good cause by teaching them to the children in the homeless shelters and providing them basic education, as education has the power to transform the individual
- If you find people along the streets in need of any medical
assistance/emergency, many government-run and NGO-run homeless shelters
are available to help them out.
Legal and Ethical Considerations:
The Apex Court has included Article 14, 19, and 21 and recognized them as deciding factors for the dignity of an individual. The states are under an obligation to protect the dignity of an individual by securing a household for the homeless.
