Getting started in poetry:
POETRY, the art itself, is a trace of humankind's existence. The poets, the poem, the emotions—they all contribute as a gift to the world. Two different perspectives exist within the same pages, varying between the eyes of the reader and the writer. In the face of life's harsh realities, art emerges as a savior from the depths of tragedy.
Art is
subjective, yet it serves as a salvation from the depths of despair. It
possesses a universal appeal, and this universality is significant. It is
appreciated in various forms, such as music, literature, fiction, drama, and
theater, among others.
WRITING IS ALWAYS A MYSTERY TO UNVEIL AND THE ANSWER KEEPS CHANGING...
IT'S A WONDERFUL FEELING AFTERALL!

individualism and his influential work "Leaves of Grass." (an easy
one!)
Here is a brief note about them,
William Shakespeare
1. As the world's renowned poet and playwright,
William Shakespeare's is known for his sonnet, plays, tragedies, comedies and
histories, What is it about
Shakespeare's words that continue to resonate with audiences worldwide, even
centuries after his time?
- Right from the famous tragedy of ROMEO AND JULIET, till small
sonnets, where he said
"Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May" (sonnet 18,
line 3).
He there compares that even the monstrous wind could swallow the
flowers(buds) along its way....
- The iconic and one of the most famous lines from William
Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" is:
"What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet."

well-known poet of the 13th century, RUMI. He is regarded as the astonishing

the mind and a retreat to the heart.

The water that pollutes you is poison; The poison that purifies you is
water",
which explains that ,there is a good in bad and bad in good as
also dictated by the the chinese yin-yang symbol.

Walt Whitman - An American poet, essayist and a journalist
3. This one is connected to the childhood memory
of mine, hearing a poem sung as a song, that goes as,
- " Captain! My
Captain!": "O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done, The
ship has weather'd every rack, the prize we sought is won, The port is
near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting, While follow eyes the
steady keel, the vessel grim and daring", by the great American poet
Walt Whitman.
CRAFTING AN ART:
Which of these is important to be focused on? in creating a soulful art or the pre-defined steps to create one?
- When creating something, it's important to be connected to the art compassionately, than experimenting it with various outputs. When it is also necessary to focus on the latter part, but the process of creation should always be close to the heart for it to be real.
- When it comes to a proper content creation, several steps should be taken into consideration in order for it to be a best one! Most of the time, writers or any sort of content creators tend to spend a huge amount of time in designing a content and going by the step-by-step process, than to actually think about what they are feeling to write.
What is my go-to approach?
- As I'm also writing in here, I surfed all through, on how to start writing a blog, then to actually start writing it!
- One important thing is that we spend the huge amount of time in the less important process and lose the important key in crafting something big.
- I remember reading it somewhere like, "DOING LESS, IS DOING MORE".
It's important to be connected with yourself and immerse in the art!
MY JOURNEY OF WRITING POEM:
The old tale of my interest in poetry:
As every young and naive teen girl, I was also a bit of silly and a shy one who always stresses about her academics than anyone! (exam weeks are the worst of it all, you call it, sheesh!!!) This idea of writing things and having a feeling towards them bloomed in me when I was around my eighth grade.
I used to write poems on general topics like rain, nature, a mix of philosophical ones, about a close friend of mine and so on. But I wasn't much into writing since I had no idea of developing it as a work.
It all again started in this quarantine, where I started writing about the pandemic and publishing one was the always in the corner of my mind. On one fine evening, when I was on my way back to home, in my college bus, this idea of starting a Instagram page on poetry flashed in my eyes. And that's how it all began!! I'm still a newbie here though!!
(My Instagram page, btw!!: https://instagram.com/poetspoken?utm_source=qr&igshid=MzNlNGNkZWQ4Mg%3D%3D
)
One of my works,
YOU LEFT....
Broken pieces stick together for it hadn't fixed the scars it left behind.
Heart shatters for a million times When it was never together.
Bridges break apart, for it never paved way to walk
Sun penetrates deep into water,
For water always reflected the clouds.
Thousands of flowers fell off down the tree, still everyone admired them
Days passes by, for every night has a tale to be told.
"It heals as time passes by..." they say,
But the time in here only got frozen, where I'm paralyzed in the past;
living only for the present I no longer have.
For when it comes to you, I still long
for that moment you collided into my soul
Certain things can never be replaced,
Wish we got stuck atleast on the right time...
A SIMPLE GUIDE TO START YOUR WRITING (A BASIC OUTLINE*):
*This is a simple guide and a basic outline on how to get started, as
there are a few in-depth ways if you're about to start your professional
journey. However this will serve as a beginner guide if you are a newbie...
Happy writing!
1. SELECTION OF TOPIC/POETRY:
Starting with the topic you choose to begin with, the ideology you have
is important. The genre of poem could be anything you like. you could start
with a lyric poetry, descriptive poetry (nature, personae, etc) or a story
to be told. So the emotion you feel to convey to the readers must be clear. You
could also google some topics and start to write in the beginning.
For example, "My happy place" is the topic I wish to
write about.
Start with the topic you have in your mind or surf for some interesting ones to begin with
Some links to look into:
2. START WITH THE BASIC OUTLINE:
- Start writing with all your rush of creativeness. Your poem could
hold a sense of nostalgia, a story-telling method, or it could be
ANYTHING!!!!
- After crafting out the outline of how the beginning and the flow
should be, now you could put yourself into the imaginary world where you
elaborate, re-write, or add new elements to your poetry!
- Keep in mind that poetry could be anything. It doesn't always have
to stick-on to one way of writing. It is the way of expressing your
emotions to the readers with just a quill and scroll and of course a bit
of imagination!!
3. FEEL FREE TO CORRECT/RE-WRITE YOUR WORK:
- Sometimes, after half-way through the poem, I've felt that
something in there is missing. Therefore, I again start it all the way
from the beginning, scoring off each and every word from the page (it's
unexplainable I know...)
- Most of the times, It only involves re-phrasing, eliminating non-important ones, other minor stuffs. So the bottom line is, "feel free to correct your poem even if you were to re-write it again". The thing is that, sometimes we tend to give-up if we face the slightest bit of inconvience. But, It's normal to do things multiple times until you get a good flow of it.
you'll get along with it!!
- The other corrections like re-phrasing words and lines could also
be made to make it sound more poetic!
- Read it multiple times and share it with your peers or family
members before you come up with the final work. Their comments might boost
your writing too!!
4.GET GUIDANCE FROM A MENTOR/PROFESSOR TO ENHANCE YOUR OVERALL WRITING:
- It is always good to get opinion or reviews from the people you
know. As a beginner it paves way to further take your poem to next level
and introduce you to various aspects of writing.
- "Mistakes are the proof that you are trying", remember to be open to all constructive criticisms! It'll get you
ahead!
5. PUBLISH YOUR WORK in famous websites/social media for people to interact and as it progresses you could become a good writer/poet one day too! yes...you're good to go!!
post your work in any kind of social media or websites to get started.
TAKEAWAYS:
In conclusion, poetry is not merely an arrangement of words on paper; it
is a profound exploration of the human experience, a reflection of our
emotions, thoughts, and dreams. It captures the essence of moments, transforms
ordinary words into art, and resonates with readers across time and space.
Whether you are a seasoned poet or someone just beginning to dip your
toes into the vast ocean of verses, remember that poetry is a boundless realm
where creativity knows no limits.
So, pen down your thoughts, let your imagination flow, and embrace the
beauty of poetry, for within its lines, you may discover the secrets of your
own soul and connect with the hearts of countless others who share this
timeless love for words.
